While February can be one of my more trying months, March can be one of my most rejuvenating. Whether it’s a handful of days or more than half the month, the sunshine of March does a number on my mood (and pretty much the whole of the Seattle, so it seems). The fact that it culminates by turning spring, makes for a near euphoric feeling. This month turned out to be wonderful for many reasons – I had my first solo-trip since Kian was 4 months old, Kian’s month-long battle with nighttime and nap-time sleep came to an end (hallelujah!), and the grayness (and brown-ness) of winter started to fade away. Together, these made for a very welcomed feeling of renewal!
Mid-month, I flew down to LA to surprise my sister for the weekend. Needless to say, it was incredibly wonderful! It was a short trip – just shy of 48 hours – but was full of both exploring and relaxing. We dined over a delicious french dinner, chatted over a relaxed pancake breakfast, hiked through her beautiful neighborhood (with striking city and hill views), moseyed through the Getty, picked ourselves up over some tasty donuts, cooked together, and over-all spent the sort of quality time together that we often miss.
A little wardrobe pick-me-up – Since I stay home with Kian, I often find myself reaching for comfy casual clothes to get me through the activity of our days (that’s if I make it out of my PJ’s…). While I love the comfort, I sometimes miss the invigorating feeling of putting on an outfit that I just feel good in. You know, that outfit that completely suits you, but also makes you feel a little cooler than normal. I purchased this shirt, and these jeans, at the beginning of March, and have found that they not only strike a perfect balance of comfort and cool, but are also incredibly versatile. They’ve seen lazy days are the house, the park, the Getty, Easter Sunday, and will be seeing plenty more in the coming months.
Planting spring vegetables – Shelling peas, fava beans, and carrots + already seeing them emerging from the soil. This year I had Kian as my helper for the first time, which honestly filled me with such joy. It is incredibly fun and fulfilling to be able to introduce my passions to Kian – whether or not his interest in them seems motivated purely for the opportunity to play with water ;-). These first plants always fill me with such excitement for the handful of veggie/fruit bearing months ahead of us.
Cherry Blossoms – Without fail, every time that we’ve gone on a walk this month, I’ve added a slew of new cherry blossom photos to my phone. They are serious mood lifters, especially when when they are backed by a clear blue sky.
Love Series – It’s been quite a while since Ricky and I have become equally invested in a show to the point where one of us doesn’t have to talk to other into binge watching. Netflix’s Love has broken our spell. It is genuinely funny, heartwarming, slightly discomfiting at times – basically, it hits all the notes, and in a natural and engaging way. There are three seasons – all of which are on Netflix – so it’s perfect if you’re like me, and can’t handle the wait between seasons. We’ve already made a sizable dent, and will no doubt finish the series by the end of April.
Livettes Wallpaper (and blog) – Not only does this company offer a fun and beautiful selection of removable wallpaper, they also offer some great inspiration though their blog. Their site + my spring fever induced craving for a ‘refresh’, has got my wheels majority turning. I’m thinking of the small spaces in our home, like Kian’s dormer ‘reading nook’ and our entry way.
Blooming backyard – After looking at a strictly brown and green backyard for 5 months, I am SO happy to see the color of spring blooms popping up in our backyard.
Allergen Friendly Bread Recipe – The title is Gluten-Free Artisan Bread in FIVE MINUTES A DAY (emphasizing, here!), yet it took me checking out this book twice, and renewing it a total of four times, to actually try the recipe. Since then, we have been baking bread nearly every other day. The title is no lie – it is truly simple – and the bread is a delicious option for gluten and egg free diets.
